Weekly Recap

It has been an inspiring and action-filled week here in Pawtucket. Over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, we joined Mixed Magic Theatre for a moving reading of Letter from Birmingham City Jail. The performers brought Dr. King’s powerful words to life, honoring his enduring legacy. A special thank you to Johnathan Pitts-Wiley and the team at Mixed Magic Theatre for creating such an impactful experience.

We also attended the 41st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast hosted by the Ministers Alliance of Rhode Island. It was a privilege to celebrate the achievements of seven remarkable students who each received $10,000 scholarships. Their hard work and dedication give us hope for a bright future. This Thursday, we were also thrilled to see so many community members join us for the City’s Poetry Reading and Open Mic Night. The heartfelt performances were a beautiful tribute to Dr. King’s life and message.

Our week also highlighted the incredible potential of Pawtucket’s students. At Goff and Slater Middle Schools, students participated in the “Girls Can Tool” workshop hosted by RI Women in the Trades. Through hands-on projects like building toolboxes and birdhouses, these students gained confidence and explored new possibilities in the trades, breaking barriers and embracing new passions.
The arts were another key focus of the week. At the Pawtucket Arts Meet and Greet, hosted at Working Man Distillers, we connected with local artists and welcomed their new art gallery.

Lastly, we had the chance to acknowledge the incredible support of the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation at their Grant Awards Breakfast. The BCSB Charitable Foundation has provided critical funding to organizations across Northern Rhode Island. Local groups such as the YMCA of Pawtucket, Pawtucket Central Falls Development, and The Empowerment Factory continue to make a meaningful difference, and their work is helping to strengthen our community.
