Weekly Recap
This week in Pawtucket was filled with moments that celebrated our city’s culture, progress, and strong sense of community. At City Hall, we proudly raised both the Irish and Italian flags, honoring the heritage and contributions of these communities. The celebration of Ghana’s 68th Independence Day brought people together in a wonderful display of culture and pride. Civic engagement was also in the spotlight, as we joined Secretary Gregg Amore at Shea High School for a meaningful discussion on the history of voting rights, reinforcing the importance of participation in our democracy.
Investing in the next generation remains a top priority for the city. We were proud to recognize the recipients of the Youth Sports Revitalization Grant, a major investment that will help expand access to youth sports and support local athletes. High school students were also in the spotlight at the Winter Key Spirit Award Breakfast, where we celebrated their hard work, leadership, and sportsmanship. Education took center stage as JMW High School students explored real-world environmental science with the help of the City’s Department of Public Works and the Audubon Society’s Storm Water Innovation Center, learning about the importance of sustainability and green infrastructure.
Pawtucket is moving forward with exciting developments that will shape its future. The new commuter rail station and Tidewater Stadium are transforming the city into a hub of transit, housing, and entertainment. Plans for the Dexter Street Commons, a $55 million mixed-use development, will bring energy-efficient apartments and vibrant commercial spaces to the heart of Pawtucket.
The community’s generosity was also on display at Spumoni’s Restaurant, where a fundraiser raised over $500 for Special Olympics Rhode Island, supporting the incredible athletes of the Pawtucket Pacers. Whether through cultural celebrations, youth empowerment, or city-wide progress, this week highlighted what makes Pawtucket such a remarkable place to call home.
