PAWTUCKET, RI – Today, Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien, in collaboration with DoorDash, announced the “Deliver Good to Your Neighborhood” program to combat food insecurity among youth in Pawtucket.

The city received $17,500 in DoorDash Community Credits, which are DoorDash gift cards that can be used to obtain food and essential items, this year that will be distributed to community youth programs throughout the city.

“We have a responsibility to do what we can to make sure every resident of Pawtucket has access to basic necessities, particularly food,” said Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “That is why we are so pleased to partner with DoorDash and to launch ‘Deliver Good to Your Neighborhood’ so we can ensure the young people of our community have every opportunity to thrive.”

“It is nearly impossible for someone to be productive or feel successful when they are hungry,” said Pawtucket’s Chief Equity Officer, Charles Carvalho. “With the current economic climate in our country, food insecurity is one of the largest issues that are impacting our small urban communities. We are excited to collaborate with DoorDash to provide resources to our young folks and ensure they have access to food when they need it.”

“As part of our commitment in support of the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, DoorDash is honored to partner with Mayor Grebien and the City of Pawtucket on the city’s Deliver Good to Your Neighborhood initiative” said DoorDash’s Government Relations Lead for New England, Christina Kennedy. “In Pawtucket and across the U.S., DoorDash Community Credits help nonprofit organizations to empower the communities that they serve, reduce food insecurity, and expand programs that provide access to opportunity. We’re excited to help broaden food access for young people in Pawtucket’s youth programs and thank the city for its partnership.”

The press conference also served as an end-of-program celebration for the City of Pawtucket’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) in partnership with the Nonviolence Institute. The SYEP employees were first to receive their DoorDash gift cards.

The application for community youth programs to apply is now live. For any additional questions, please contact Charles Carvalho, Chief Equity Officer for the City of Pawtucket at [email protected] or 401-728-0550 ext. 227.
