Weekly Recap

This week in Pawtucket, we honored the rich history and diversity that makes our city so special. We proudly raised the Dominican flag at City Hall in celebration of Dominican Independence Day, standing alongside Councilor Neicy Coderre and our Dominican neighbors to recognize their contributions to our community. We also had the privilege of welcoming Cape Verde’s Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Augusto Veiga, for an inspiring discussion about supporting Cape Verdean arts and culture in Pawtucket. These moments reflect our city’s ongoing commitment to celebrating and uplifting the many cultures that call Pawtucket home.

Creativity took center stage at the Leon Mathieu Senior Center, where a stunning new mural was installed as part of an exciting initiative to revitalize the center’s outdoor space. With support from the Commission on Arts and Culture, the Harriet Ballou Charitable Foundation, and artist Greg Pennisten, this project is just the beginning of a transformation that will bring more beauty and accessibility to our senior community. Meanwhile, Pawtucket’s business leaders gathered for The Morning Matchup, where small business owners connected with Rhode Island FC leadership and got an exclusive look at the new Tidewater Stadium. As we continue to invest in our city’s public spaces and business community, it’s clear that Pawtucket is growing in ways that foster connection and opportunity for all.

We also had the pleasure of celebrating excellence and leadership at the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce’s 34th Annual Celebration Awards. Congratulations to Joe & Julie Perroni and Rep. Mary Ann Shallcross Smith on their well-earned recognition! And as we look ahead, the Pawtucket Hall of Fame Committee is now accepting nominations for the 2025 class. If you know someone who has made a lasting impact on our city, be sure to submit a nomination by May 16.
