Pawtucket – Mayor Donald R. Grebien and the Pawtucket City Council have announced that yard waste collection will begin the week of Monday, April 6, 2026. Residents are asked to leave yard waste bags out on their regular trash pickup day.
Yard waste must be placed in brown yard waste bags—available at all local hardware stores—or put in a barrel (33 gallons or less) clearly labeled “yard waste” in order to be collected. Plastic bags are not allowed for yard waste. This program does not cover wood from building materials or scrap wood.
Yard waste bags should remain separate from all other trash and recycling and cannot be mixed in with regular household trash, as mixed waste bags will not be collected. When mixed with household trash, leaves and other yard waste add significantly to the City’s disposal cost.
The leaf and yard waste program runs until December 11th, 2026.
Alternatively, residents can dispose of yard waste responsibly at the Grotto Ave. Transfer Station, using the following guidelines:
– 3 Paper Yard Waste Bags
– 3 32-gallon max. barrels
– 3 Bundles (max 3ft length, 12in diameter, no branches >3in).
