Weekly Recap
This week in Pawtucket, we were reminded of just how much heart lives in our city. We honored the remarkable legacy of Ama “Mama Ama” Amponsah with the unveiling of a new memorial that reflects her compassion and leadership. The tribute serves as a permanent reminder of her indelible impact on our community. At the same time, we welcomed the addition of a new Little Free Library at Rebaek-Winsten Post Memorial Square thanks to Lola Rocha and her family. It’s small gestures like this that keep the spirit of learning and sharing alive for neighbors of all ages.
Pawtucket continued to show what it means to invest in people and possibilities. Our high school students impressed at interviews with General Dynamics Electric Boat and 26 were offered jobs on the spot. We joined Brown University for their Annual College Day and cheered on our youth as they explored next steps in their academic journeys. We also celebrated the swearing-in of Oscar Libreros to the Juvenile Hearing Board. His leadership will help shape brighter futures for young people across the city. At Family Art & Literacy Night, families came together to create mandalas filled with affirmations, showing just how powerful creative expression can be when it brings people together.
The city also kept its focus on growth and partnership. From the excitement building around Centreville Bank Stadium to the opening night of the Farmers Market and the grand opening of V-Spa on Mineral Spring Ave, Pawtucket is moving forward in meaningful ways. We stood with partners like Blackstone Valley Community Health Care and Clothes To Kids RI as they work to keep families supported and prepared. And we were honored to welcome world-renowned Cabo Verdean artists Cremilda Medina and Tito Paris, a testament to the unique cultural spirit that sets Pawtucket apart.
