Weekly Recap
This week in Pawtucket was a true testament to our city’s community, history, and innovation! Firefighter Chris McCluskie took the stage as the guest speaker for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Rhode Island Torch Run Kickoff Lunch. Chris shared his journey of getting involved with Special Olympics Rhode Island (SORI), highlighting how meaningful the experience has been for both the athletes and the dedicated members of law enforcement, fire, and corrections who support them. His words were a powerful reminder of the impact that service and inclusion have on our community.
History was also front and center this week, as Pawtucket was proudly represented at RI250 Day at the State House. With the 250th anniversary of our nation’s independence approaching in 2026, this event was an incredible opportunity to collaborate with cities and towns across Rhode Island and highlight Pawtucket’s important role in the American Revolution. Meanwhile, a touching piece of local history was rediscovered when Goodwill Industries of Central Florida reunited a WWII sailor’s burial flag with his family—decades after it was originally sent to an address in Pawtucket. Stories like these remind us of the deep roots and enduring connections that make our city so special.
On the education and business front, our future is brighter than ever! At the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Showcase, Pawtucket students demonstrated their remarkable creativity and problem-solving skills, proving once again that our city is a leader in STEM education. And downtown, we welcomed Centreville Bank to Main Street in their new shared space with Rhode Island FC, a fantastic investment in the growth and vitality of our community.
Of course, no week would be complete without a celebration—our 43rd Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade was a joyous success, bringing together residents and community groups to honor tradition and showcase the unity of Pawtucket. Thank you to everyone who made this week one to remember!
