City of Pawtucket Announces Launch of ARPA-Funded Building Improvement Program Grant
Pawtucket, RI – August 9, 2024 – The City of Pawtucket is pleased to announce the opening of the application process for the Building Improvement Program (BIP) Grant, funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). This grant program aims to revitalize the downtown and growth district areas that have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The BIP grant is designed to support projects that will enhance the streetscape and overall appeal of Pawtucket’s downtown and riverfront areas. Eligible projects include storefront improvements, ventilation system upgrades, affordable housing development, and the rehabilitation of historic properties, among others. Property owners, both for-profit and nonprofit, within the designated impact area, are encouraged to apply.
“The Building Improvement Program is a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to rebuild and rejuvenate Pawtucket’s downtown area,” said Mayor Donald R. Grebien, “this grant not only helps property owners and small businesses recover from the challenges of the pandemic, but also fosters a sense of pride and community by making our city a more vibrant and welcoming place.”
Applications for the BIP Grant opened on August 8, 2024, and will remain open until all funds are obligated. A total of $3,000,000 is available through this competitive program, with grants ranging from $50,000 to $400,000 per project. The City will also provide technical support to assist applicants with compliance, design, and project management at no cost.
The City of Pawtucket will host a Q&A session on August 19, 2024, at 1:00 PM to provide further information and answer any questions potential applicants may have. The session will be recorded and made available on the city’s website for those unable to attend.
